Nova Scotia presently offers four French second language programs:
| Program | Grades Taught | Description |
| Core French | Grades 4-12 | Core French which is mandatory from Grade 4 through 9, is a program where French is studied and taught in regularly scheduled instructional periods. Intensive French is offered as an alternative delivery model for Core French in Grade 6 in some school boards. |
| Integrated French | Grades 7-12 | This elective program is offered to those students in Anglophone schools who wish to develop a greater degree of competence in French. |
| Early French Immersion | Grades P-12 |
Early French Immersion offers an alternate approach to teaching and learning through the use of French as a second language, beginning in Grade Primary. |
| Late French Immersion | Grades 7-12 |
Late French Immersion offers an alternate approach to teaching and learning through the use of French as a second language, beginning in Grade 7. |
| Correspondence Studies | Grades 10-12 | A growing number of correspondence studies courses are available to Core French and Immersion students at the senior high school level. |
